Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings coming soon

Nielsen and Twitter are partnering together to utilize data from the 140-character social network to create the “Nielsen Twitter TV Rating”. This, they project, will be an industry-standard metric, using solely Twitter data and commercially available for the beginning of the Fall 2013 TV season..

Twitter left most of the announcement up to Nielsen’s press release but added in their blog that they will be working to improve the Twitter while watching TV experience better in the coming months.

The Nielsen Twitter TV Rating will serve to complement Nielsen’s existing TV ratings, giving TV networks and advertisers the real-time metrics required to understand TV audience social activity. These ratings will build on top of NM Incite’s SocialGuide audience engagement analytics platform.

For all the details, read Nielsen’s full press release.

When this aspect of TV ratings goes live in Fall 2013, your tweet complaining about the delay/cancellation of your favorite show might actually make it to somebody that can do something about it.
