Microsoft releases Silverlight 5

Microsoft released version 5 of its Silverlight platform yesterday. The blog post announcing it summarizes the new features as hardware decoding of H.264, Postscript Vector Printing, improved graphics stack with 3D support, and extending the “Trusted application” model to the browser.

You can see the details of what’s new in Silverlight 5 from the MSDN article of the same name.

Silverlight 5 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Silverlight site.

With Adobe abandoning Flash on mobile devices, will Silverlight follow their lead and abandon in preference for HTML 5 or might it take Flash’s place?
