DirecTV and Viacom spat spills out to all consumers

Viacom and DirecTV have been unable to reach contract negotiations as Viacom is asking for a higher price and DirecTV is not willing to pay. Due to threatened legal action by Viacom, DirecTV was forced to stop broadcasting all Viacom networks. Those 17 networks affected include Palladia, Centric, Tr3s, CMT, Logo, NickToons, VH1 Classic, TeenNick, Nick Jr., Nick@Nite, Spike, BET, VH1, TV Land, Comedy Central, Nick and MTV. Both sides of the argument have taken to the web to appeal to customers to tell the other company to back down.

In addition to the websites, both companies have also been trending topics on Twitter with customers speaking out on both sides.

To DirecTV’s Promise website, they added a page listing other ways to watch Viacom shows through the network websites. In response, Viacom has taken down many online venues to their shows for everybody. ┬áComedy Central is just one of those sites. Fortunately, many shows are on Summer break so you won’t be missing new episodes.

Last week, DISH settled to remove AMC, IFC, WE, and Sundance. Hopefully DirecTV and Viacom will be able to work out a deal before customers are put any further in the middle.
