Averaging fonts creates a new font, Averia

BoingBoing pointed its readers to an interesting write-up about Averia, a font that was made by “averaging” together a number of fonts.

The font Averia is freely available with a SIL Open Font License but I found the designer’s description of the steps taken to form the font, far more interesting. Part technical, logical, and design, the problems encountered were intriguing and the solution is quite satisfying. Go give it a read and download the font if you’d like.
